"Celebration of Friendship" perhaps best describes
the golf
and social activity at Ocean Ridge on or near Memorial
Day
each May. The Ladies and Men’s
Leagues collaborate in
organizing an Annual "Memorial" golf
tournament to
celebrate in the memory of Ocean Ridge golf league
members who have passed away in the current year and
to celebrate
good times with good friends, new and old.
Members of ORMGA and ORLGA
are invited to attend and
the golf tournament is limited to 128 players.
The
day’s events consist of a shotgun Shamble or Scramble tournament with
mixed foursomes. In the past, teams recorded three low net scores on each
hole.
Players and guests attend a light dinner and social gathering at
one of our club dining rooms after the tournament at which awards are
presented. The social is limited to 160 participants.
Entry fee can be
paid for tournament only, dinner only or both.
The entire day is all
about having fun and sharing it with our Ocean Ridge friends.
Format:
For a Shamble -
Select the best tee shot and each team member plays their own ball from
that position until the ball is holed. Count the best three net scores.
Each player receives their full handicap. Ladies play from the red tees
and gentlemen play from the white tees. There are no minimum tee shot
requirements.
For a Scramble - Select the
best tee shot and each team member plays their own ball from that
position. Then select the best second shot and each player plays
their own ball from that position. Continue in this manner until the ball
is holed for each hole. Ladies play from the red tees and gentlemen play
from the white tees. There may be minimum tee shot requirements in this
format.
Rules: Gimmes within the leather
and rolling the ball
in the fairway are rule allowances that have been
used is the past.
Awards: These are monetary and presented at the
dinner/social gathering
immediately after the tournament.
