I. Call to order and Opening comments
The meeting was called to order at 9:50 AM by President Peggy Rowland. Peggy thanked the hospitality committee for organizing the breakfast. Peggy asked the attendees to please sign up for the quarterly meetings on the web page. This will help the committee determine how much food to prepare. A new member, Judy Harlow, was introduced and welcomed to the league. July Birthdays were announced and Happy Birthday was sung. Doris Fairchild has generously donated two quilts for the Hope Harbor tournament and they were displayed.
II. Secretary’s Report
Peggy Rowland stated that the minutes of the last meeting had been posted on the ORLGA web site and asked for any corrections or amendments. Peggy Rowland asked for a motion to accept the minutes as posted. Upon motion by Michelle Sherwood, seconded by Skip Lindstrom , and carried unanimously, it was
MOVED: That the Minutes the ORLGA Meeting of April 8, 2009 be approved as written.
III. Treasurer’s Report
Jan Henson reported that there is a balance of $4,269.98. The hole-in-one insurance fund is adequately funded at this time. Ruth Ray and Diane Gruver had hole-in-ones during league play. Mary K Donohoe also had one but it was not league play so was not eligible. Upon motion by Mickie Underhill, seconded by Gwen Fitzgerald and carried unanimously, it was
MOVED: That the Treasurer’s report be approved as read.
IV. Committee Reports
A. Tournament Committee
Mickie Underhill thanked the Tournament Committee for their excellent work. The President’s Cup matching have begun and are going smoothly. Lady Birds will be playing at Sea Trail in July, Lockwood Folly August 6 and Ocean Ridge August 11. Mickie asked the league members to consider signing up in order to be eligible for the luncheon and the Lady Birds Cup tournament
B. Other reports
Ringers, Directory, Publicity, By-laws and Club 25 did not have anything to report
C. Handicap Committee
There was a question as to how the President’s Cup matches should be entered for handicap purposes. They should not be entered as tournament scores. Lady Birds, Club 25 and Grand Strand play should be entered as Tournament rounds as you must play the ball down and putt out.
D. Local Rules
Sally Duffy presented rules clarifications for Panther #4 and Lions #10. When facing the green, the water to the right of the bridge at #4 Panthers is a water hazard not a lateral water hazard. Therefore, it is a yellow hazard. On Lions #10, Patrick clarified that the area across the second bridge has always been a yellow hazard. Peggy Jones had questions on Lions #5 and Panther’s #10 and divots. LP #5 is now marked as a waste bunker. Sally will look into whether there is landscaping on PR #10. Divots are part of golf.
E. Hospitality
Pam McCafferty thanked those that provided food.
F. Member-Guest Tournament Jeanne Maxon reminded everyone of the Sunday night party at the beach house. The planning for the tournament is complete and Jeanne thanked her committee.
G. Rally for the Cure
Mary Lou Atkinson and Patti Dugan reported that rather than participating in the Rally for the Cure, the committee chose a new charity that provides free breast and cervical cancer screening to women in need. The requirements to obtain the screening are strict so they will look into how many women would qualify. The plans are to run the tournament in a similar fashion as the Rally of previous years. There will be flags, raffles and a luncheon at the Plantation Club.
H. Welcome Committee
Nancy MacDonald said the committee will be updating the web page with new pictures.
I. Web Page Karen McCloskey reported that there is a new members-only director which is secure. It is accessible with a password and user name. There is also a link to the men’s league web page. Karen and Ginny were commended for their excellent work.
J. Charity Committee Ruth Ray reported that 274 lbs of food and $685 were collected at the last charity event. The committee will be collecting donations today for the Providence Home in Southport. Donations will include useful items such as detergents, paper towels, toilet paper etc. and of course cash is appreciated. Ruth thanked everyone for their generosity
K. Interclub Peggy Rowland congratulated the winners and said the Ocean Ridge was tied for 2nd place. Landfall is in first place. The next tournaments are at Pine Valley July 28 and Ocean Ridge August 4.
