Possible Formats for 9 Holes:
Rules:
Alternate Shot: In traditional Alternate Shot, the partners decide beforehand which one of them will tee off on the odd holes, and which one will tee off on the even holes. The partners then hit alternate shots into the hole. In this format, 25% of the total team handicaps are used, and the scorecards will reflect these numbers.
Scramble: Both players tee off, pick the best tee shot and then both hit from there. Then the partners pick the best second shot, and both hit from there. This is repeated until the ball is holed. The ball must be placed within one club length of the shot being chosen, and must remain in the same condition (ie, if in the rough, must stay in the rough, etc.) No gimmes. Teams must use at least two drives from each team member. In this format, 35% of the A player and 15% of the B player’s handicaps divided by two will be used, and the scorecards will reflect these numbers.
Better Ball of Partners: On each hole, the teams select the
lower net score of the partners and record that as the team score. No gimmies and play the ball down. Each team must
use at least three scores from each partner. Full handicaps with strokes on appropriate holes will be indicated on the score cards.
Criers Nine - Better Ball of Partners minus the two highest nets: On each
hole, the teams select the lower net score of the partners and record that as the team score. Each team must use at least three scores
from each partner. No gimmes and play the ball down. After the nine holes are played, drop the two highest net scores from the team
score. Full handicaps for this format are used.
Shamble: Choose the best drive of the partners and then
each partner plays her own ball from that spot. Use at least two nets from each partner.
Duck Soup: Both players in a team tee off, then switch
balls. Player “A” plays Player “B”’s drive and vice- versa. Each player hits the second shot. Then select the better of
the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed, play alternate shot. The player whose second ball was NOT
chosen, gets to play the third shot.
Total Net of Partners: Both partners play all their shots, and
deduct the handicap shown on the scorecard for those nine holes at the end. Both players must put the ball in the
hole and cannot pick up. No gimmes and play the ball down. Full handicaps for this format are used.
Rules: USGA Rules. Any modifications to the rules of the tournament including use of ORLGA local rules will be decided by the tournament directors and players will be notified of these modifications prior to play on each day of the tournament.
Winners:
Teams with the lowest total score over the four formats win. Directors can option to include "Closest to the Pin" for any of the Par 3's.
Awards: Presented after the last round of golf generally at the Plantation Club. Food and beverages (coupons for drinks a possibility) have been provided in the past.
