Awards:
At the end of the three days of play, the team with the most
points wins the Carolina Cup. After play the final day, the
teams gather at the Plantation Club for an awards ceremony
and a toast to the winners. Everyone who has played in this
tournament, whether she has won or lost, has really enjoyed
the camaraderie and the competition of this team event.

So, when you see the signup for the
Carolina Cup later this year, join in and
you will have a great time!
Scoring:
Keeping score in match play should be done on a hole by hole
basis, so that both teams know on every hole whether they are
all square, or up or down by a certain number of holes. This is
important, because in match play, when the difference in the
number of holes won exceeds the number of holes remaining,
the match is over. For example, if one teams is up three holes
with only two holes to play, that team wins the match 3 and 2.
When the number of holes remaining is the same as the number
of holes one teams is up, that team is called "dormie", which
means that they can do no worse than gain a tie for their team.
Nothing could be finer
than to be in Carolina...

Format:
Play is held over three days, with each format contested over 18
holes each day. As in traditional Ryder Cup play, one point is
awarded to each team for the most holes won in each format.
Ties earn 1/2 point for both teams if they each have won the
same number of holes in that format. Handicaps are calculated
using USGA rules. As in all match play events handicaps are based
off the lower handicap player for all three formats. That means
that the number of strokes the higher handicap player gets is the
difference between her handicap and the lower handicap player,
and it will be reflected on the appropriate holes on the scorecards.

There are two versions of Alternate Shot that can be played in
   these tournaments.
In Traditional Ryder Cup Alternate Shot, both partners tee off on
every hole, and then decide which tee shot to use. Whosever tee
shot is not used takes the next shot, and the partners then hit
alternate shots into the hole. It doesn’t matter who holes out the
putt, since both team members tee off on every hole.
The other format is known as
True Alternate Shot. In this format,
   both partners tee off on the first hole, and pick the best tee shot;
whosever tee shot is not used then takes the next shot, and so on
until the ball is holed. On the next hole and on all remaining
holes, only the partner who did not make the last putt tees off,
and then the partners hit alternate shots into the hole.

Better Ball of Partners, also known as best net or four ball, is
exactly what it sounds like. On each hole, the team selects the
lower net score of the partners and records that as the team
score. Again, the pairing with the most holes won wins the point
   for their team.
   Singles matches are pure
one-on-one match play, in which the
player who wins the most holes wins a point for her team.
Rules:
The committee that runs the Carolina Cup Tournament together
with the team Captains will decide on the rules and formats to be
used, and the order in which they will be played. USGA Match
Play Rules will be used for all formats.
This Tournament consists of exactly two teams. The league president and tournament committee chairperson name the two captains of the teams. Once the signup list is complete, participants gather together for a pre-tournament pizza party at which team selection takes place.
The teams will be chosen by the captains at the Pizza Party by picking names from a hat in A-B-C-D order.  This is also the time for team members to choose a name of their team, team colors and plan activities to cheer their team to a win. The captains will make their two-player pairings for each round prior to a particular day's round.
